What is a Torch-On Membrane?

A torch-on membrane (or torch-on felt) is a highly effective, heavy-duty waterproofing method primarily used for flat roofs, balconies, retaining walls, and decks. It consists of layers of modified bitumen (asphalt) that are reinforced with materials like fiberglass or polyester.

The name comes directly from the application process: a propane blowtorch is used to melt the underside of the membrane roll as it is unrolled onto the surface, creating a powerful, waterproof bond with the substrate.

When is PU Injection needed?

PU Injection (Polyurethane High-Pressure Grouting) is suitable for the following situations:

✅ 1. Active water leakage through cracks

Continuous dripping from the ceiling
Leakage occurring after rainfall
Seepage through basement or parking garage slabs
Leakage in basements or retaining walls

This is the most common application for PU Injection.

✅ 2. Concrete cracks subject to water pressure
Examples:

Parking garage slabs

Upon contact with water, the PU material foams and expands, filling the crack and stopping the flow of water.

✅ 3. Situations where access from above is not possible

In these cases, high-pressure grouting is typically performed by drilling holes and installing packers from the underside of the slab.

When is PU Injection alone not recommended?

PU Injection can only stop leakage through cracks; it cannot replace a waterproofing layer. If the waterproofing layer has failed, re-waterproofing is usually required.

Waterproofing Surface Preparation Checklist

Bituplus AR 4000 membranes are made from non-woven polyester which are saturated and coated with a homogenous plasto-elastomeric blend of polymers, distilled bitumen and stabilizers. The mixture is carefully produced under controlled conditions to ensure its stability at high temperatures. FIELDS OF APPLICATION - waterproofing of roof gardens, flower containers, underground boxes, and retaining walls. - waterproofing in soil or growing medium, paving or corner supports, block paving on sand. APPLICATION Application procedure may vary slightly depending upon site conditions. However below given are general guidelines. Surface preparation The surface where the membrane will be laid is to be made clean and dry. All surface imperfections and protrusions are to be removed and repaired. Structurally unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired with a suitable repair mortar.

TOUCHSTONE LASTIC UT-1006 is a water based one part elastomeric liquid waterproofing emulsion. It is flexible, high tensile strength and designed as exposed waterproofing coating.

Surface Preparation New concrete should be cured for at least 28 days .The area to becoated has to be clean, dry and free from oil,grease and dust. All contamination that could interfere with the adhesion of the coating has to be removed.Leaks and water infiltrations must be eliminated.Remove free-standing water, repair excessive cracks and resurface exposed aggregate and small voids with a suitable high-strength, fast curing, nonshrinking product. Mixing Prior to application, stir TOUCHSTONE LASTIC UT-1006 thoroughly for 1 minute in order to achieve a homogeneous mixture.Over mixing must be avoided to minimise air entrainment. Application 1. Apply latex primer UT-202 for basecoat to enhance the adhesion strength. 2. Apply 2 neat topcoats of TS-1006
